SEPM Deepwater Research Group
Dear deepwater enthusiasts,
Sarah Southern (Univ. Calgary) and Zane Jobe (Colorado School of Mines) invite you to attend the SEPM Deepwater Research Group meeting at the upcoming AAPG conference in Houston.
When: Monday, April 3, 7:00-10:00 pm
Where: Ballroom B (3rd floor) of the Four Seasons Hotel Logistics: Shell has graciously provided funding for drinks and light snacks
Topic: Thin-bedded Turbidites Associated with Submarine Channels
We are very pleased to have the following speakers: Ian Kane (Univ. of Manchester) and Zoltán Sylvester (Bureau of Economic Geology, UT, Austin). They will each give 15-20 minute talks, separated by periods of discussion and socializing.
The meeting will focus on the variety of thin-bedded turbidites associated with submarine channels (e.g. channel margin, internal levee, and external levee). How do we distinguish these deposits? What can they tell us about turbidity current variability and how channel systems evolve? What are the implications of our interpretations for stratigraphic architecture and connectivity in subsurface systems? How much do they contribute to hydrocarbon production in submarine channel reservoirs? The format of the meeting will allow for plenty of audience interaction with the speakers during short talks, as well as networking during breaks and discussions. In preparation for the meeting, we are seeking your questions! Please email us with ideas for questions regarding channel-related thin beds that the community could discuss. Any and all questions are greatly appreciated!
Sarah and Zane
